About Me

About me, huh. Well let's see, my name is Joel and I am 33 years old. I am an avid sportswriter as well as restaurant critic, so my two pastimes are sports and food. Writing, though, trumps all. I love the San Francisco 49ers, and I am a die hard Oakland A's fan, as well. I was born and raised in the East Bay Area in California, and have lived in the Sacramento region for pretty much my entire life, save a spat of years in Phoenix, AZ or Houston/Austin, TX.

I started learning Spanish very early on. I believe I was in the 5th grade. It sort of took off from there. I figured out I was pretty good at it, and it just stuck with me my entire life. Growing up in California allowed me to hone my skills in speaking the language, thanks to the efforts of my Spanish-speaking neighbors who politely smiled and waited patiently for me to spit out the correct verbatim.

I took Spanish all through middle school, high school, and college. After braving the rigorousness of my 16th Century Iberian Literature course, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Sacramento State University.

After awhile, I found I enjoyed the freedom of Internet society, as well as teaching Spanish grammar, so I decided to open a Virtual Spanish school in 2007. It has been going great, and I am really excited to see the growth and innovation in the Website.

¡Nos vemos!
